Britney Spears will not perform this Sunday at the MTV Video Music Awards. There had been whispers of a surprise performance of “Hold Me Closer” with Elton John.
A source confirmed, (quote) “The rumor started when MTV called the label to get clearance to play the song. But Britney is not performing the song in any way, shape, or form. No video, no virtual.” (Hollywood Life)
And certainly not Britney singing into a hot microphone. Britney has not released new music for six years. The Las Vegas residency was the last time she performed on stage — and those shows were wall-to-wall lip-synced.
MTV revealed on Thursday that Snoop Dogg and Eminem will take the stage together at Sunday’s VMAs in Newark, New Jersey. Their first collaboration in over 20-years namechecks their hometowns, “From the D 2 The LBC.”
Other performers include Bad Bunny, Lizzo, Nicki Minaj, Anitta, Jack Harlow and K-pop girl group, Blackpink. (MTV)
