Elton John‘s latest collaboration with another female pop star is out now.

“Hold Me Closer,” with Britney Spears, is a contemporary twist on his “Tiny Dancer” with elements of his other songs — “The One” and “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart” — sprinkled in.

Produced by Andrew Watt, Elton says the seeds for the collaboration were sown in 2014 when they met at his Academy Awards Viewing Party.

Then in 2015, Britney professed her love for “Tiny Dancer” in a tweet, which sparked the idea for the collaboration with Elton, and they finally recorded it this summer.

“I am absolutely thrilled to have had the chance to work with Britney Spears,” says Elton. “She truly is an icon, one of the all-time great pop stars and she sounds amazing on this record. I love her dearly and am delighted with what we’ve created together.”

Britney adds, “I was so honored when the incredible Sir Elton John asked me to join him on one his most iconic songs. We are so excited for the fans to hear it! Thank you, Elton, for having me! I am so grateful that I got the opportunity to work with you and your legendary mind.”

Available on all streaming services, this is Britney’s first new song since 2016. And, it’s the second straight summer that Elton has collaborated with a female singer on a reworking of one of his songs. Last year it was “Cold Heart (PNAU Remix)” with Dua Lipa, which hit the Top 10.
