Adele showed off her bikini body on Instagram Sunday but ended up getting slammed and accused of cultural appropriation.
The singer was pictured wearing a Jamaican flag bikini top and had her hair styled in Bantu knots. Her post was quickly criticized by many who accused her of cultural appropriation.
One person commented, “Dear white people, please just be yourselves and stop it for good with cultural appropriation. Adele the bantu knots were unnecessary. The Jamaican flag bikini top was unnecessary… Please just stop it.” Another argued, “Black women are discriminated against for wearing cultural hairstyles like bantu knots and locs but white people are not, that’s not fair and that’s why people are pissed off.”
But Adele also had her supporters saying they appreciated her celebrated their culture.
