The estate of Michael Jackson is negotiating the sale of half his music catalog. The asking price is in the range of $900 million.

Sony Music wants 50% of the revenue from Jackson’s publishing and music royalties. They would also take a portion of the money from the Michael Jackson musical on Broadway as well as the upcoming biopic staring Michael’s nephew, Jaafar Jackson.

Sony Music previously acquired in similar deals the catalogs of dinosaur rockers Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan.

Though this Jackson deal is by far Sony’s biggest. Even though Michael Jackson did not write many of his record-breaking hits from the 80s, for example “Thriller” and “Pretty Young Thing” and “Man in the Mirror” (Variety)
