MARIAH CAREY: Legal Fight Over “Queen of Christmas”

Mariah Carey wants the official title “Queen of Christmas,” which she filed to trademark. But she faces a court battle.

At the trademark office, Mariah requested exclusive use of Princess of Christmas, Christmas Princess, Queen of Christmas as well as QOC.

Singer Darlene Love is best-known for “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home).” She’s claimed that 29 years ago David Letterman dubbed her the Queen of Christmas. That title cannot belong solely to Mariah.

Another New Yorker, Elizabeth Chan sings exclusively Christmas music. She filed opposition to Mariah’s trademark. Chan said (quote) “I feel very strongly that no one person monopolize Christmas in the way that Mariah seeks. That’s just not the right thing to do. Christmas is for everyone.” (Variety)
