Next week at the Video Music Awards, MTV will honor Diddy with the Global Icon Award.

It’s an opportune time. The industry is celebrating 50-years of Hip-Hop. Diddy will perform at the Video Music Awards. Only days after the MTV ceremony, he will release his first solo album since 2006. The Love Album: Off the Grid features guests The Weeknd, Justin Bieber and Mary J. Blige

MTV bestows the honor to “an artist whose unparalleled career and influence has left an indelible mark on the music landscape.” Beyond his five #1 hits and a pair of chart-topping albums, Diddy founded Bad Boy Records 30 years ago. (People)

Video Music Awards are scheduled for Tuesday, September 12th at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
