R. Kelly

Now that R.Kelly has been sentenced to prison for 30-years, the warden at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) placed him on “suicide watch.”

R. Kelly’s stuck in a unique jail cell cut off from visitors. He’s prohibited from shaving and showering. Utensils are banned. There’s no toilet paper in the cell and he must eat meals with hands. (TMZ)

The lawyer representing R. Kelly filed a lawsuit against the Brooklyn jail seeking damages for emotional distress. The suit claims that a “mentally-fine” R.Kelly was placed on suicide watch is “purely punitive reasons.” (E! News)

Assistant U.S. Attorney Melanie Speight responded on Sunday that suicide watch is “for his own safety following a psychological assessment. R. Kelly’s life circumstances undoubtedly bring emotional distress. He is a convicted sex offender sentenced to spend three-decades in prison.” (The Hollywood Reporter)
