Duchess Meghan Markle starts the New Year with $1.36 more in her wallet.

The British courts awarded Meghan this surprising windfall of $1.36. London tabloids published a handwritten letter to her estranged father. Meghan urged Thomas Markle to keep a low-profile as her Royal wedding approached. He ignored her hand-written pleas.

The Daily Mail and Mail Online are guilty of invading Meghan’s privacy. The judge also ordered the tabloids to pay a “confidential and substantial sum” for copyright infringement. Meghan reportedly earmarked those millions to be donated to an anti-bullying charity.

Another $2 million from the tabloids will go toward paying Meghan’s legal fees. The British judge ordered them to publish on their front page a “declaration that they had lost their legal case.” The Daily Mail and Mail Online fulfilled that obligation on when they were guaranteed low readership — the day after Christmas.
