Dave Chappelle issued an ultimatum to the city council of Yellow Springs, Ohio. Either they veto plans for an affordable housing development or he will scrap $65 million of investments in his hometown, including his restaurant and comedy club.

Two months ago, he threatened, (quote) “I’ve invested millions of dollars in town. If you push this thing through, what I’m investing in is no longer applicable.”

The housing development promised to offer hundreds of single-family homes, duplexes and townhouses at a reasonable price. Chappelle objected to the project because it’s right in his backyard. This week, he repeated the ultimatum and tossed an insult toward city councilors, (quote) “I cannot believe you would make me audition for you. You look like clowns. I am not bluffing. I will take it all off the table.”

The threats were effective. The city council voted to nix the affordable housing project but allow the developer to build 143 luxury homes on the property. (NBC News)
