More than $45 million has been spent on advance tickets for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. The sequel is predicted to earn at least $175 million over the holiday weekend.

Previews start Thursday afternoon. Half the students are out of class this Friday in honor of Veterans Day. Optimists believe a $200 million opening is possible.

Wakanda Forever might have the biggest debut of the year. Doctor Strange opened with $187 million, which is a potential target for Wakanda Forever playing on 4300 movie screens. Rotten Tomatoes scores the Marvel flick at 87% based on upbeat critics’ opinions.

There’s not another blockbuster on the calendar to compete against Black Panther: Wakanda Forever until the Avatar sequel arrives the weekend before Christmas. (The Hollywood Reporter)
